Plants possess an energy that I know I cannot capture in my work, yet I still try. Through my research into Japanese crests I realized that I could not convert the real thing into simplified abstracted versions without understanding the plant itself. I started doing these graphic studies to see if I could capture the aesthetics of the plants in simplified shapes and planes of color.
